The Million Careers I Wanted Growing Up
Growing up, I wanted to do a million things. I was that kid with a new career aspiration every other week—artist, vet, teacher, architect—you name it, I dreamt it. By the time I got to college, I had narrowed it down (kind of). I started as a Teacher because I loved being creative, but quickly realized that managing a classroom of 20+ kids was… well, not my calling. Yes, the irony isn’t lost on me—I’m now homeschooling three kids across two different grades. 🙃
From Teaching to Nursing (and Everything In Between)
Next up on the career roulette? Nursing. I’ve always loved babies, and helping people sounded like a great way to spend my life. Plus, pre-COVID, the pay wasn’t bad either! But that dream came to a screeching halt when I got to biology and chemistry. Let’s just say… science isn’t my strong suit.
Chasing My Creative Dreams
After a long conversation with my parents, I made the decision to push aside the “logical” careers and do what I really wanted: Interior Design/Architecture. I was thrilled when I got accepted into the Art Institute of Dallas. I was finally on my way to a creative career that felt right. But life had other plans, and due to illness, I had to return home. Shortly after, I married my husband and quickly became a mom.
The Journey to In This Haus
So, what about my career? Well, it didn’t exactly go as planned, but it did lead me to where I am today. I started my business, In This Haus, a personalized canvas and print company that lets me tap into my creative side while balancing family life.
Bringing Mood Boards Into the Mix
Recently, I’ve been getting back to my interior design roots through mood boards. I’ve been using them to visualize how my canvases could fit into different design spaces. It’s a way for me to blend my love of graphic and interior design in a way that feels true to my creative journey.
Is My Style for Everyone? Nope!
Is my style for everyone? Probably not. But I love doing it, and more importantly, it brings me that spark of joy I’ve been craving. This might not be the career I imagined when I was younger, but it’s one that allows me to be creative, build something meaningful, and balance life as a mom of three. For me, that’s the sweet spot.
What’s Next? Stay Tuned!
So, stay tuned as I dive into mood boards and let my creativity run wild—who knows where it’ll take me next!
